What is your favorite piece in your collection and why?

  • Colorful rack of Mien Studios jumpsuits
  • Lakeside Jumpsuit in a variety of colors

The Lakeside Jumpsuit is my line’s signature piece and still my favorite. It has a simple, elegant silhouette that’s easy to dress up or down and the fabric I make this style with is a luxuriously thick and soft GOTS Certified Organic Cotton with a touch of spandex. I have this fabric custom knit in L.A. for my line and its beautiful quality makes the Lakeside maternity, nursing, and postpartum-friendly as well. I live in this Jumpsuit most days —running errands in it, going on playdates or dinner dates—  just by switching up the shoes I pair it with. I also don’t travel without a couple of Lakesides in my suitcase.

What inspires your work?

Helping other women like me gives me the drive to create for my clothing line, Mien Studios. I want this brand to be a favorite go-to for women who wear and care about sustainable fashion, but I also want to offer mothers clothing options that can grow with them through the many stages of pregnancy and keep up with busy modern life. I don’t want my line to be an aspirational brand. I want this line to make everyone feel welcomed and represented as we truly are —that’s why all the models in our photoshoots are “real” women, my customers, and friends. We come in all colors and shapes and sizes, that’s what I want to capture and proudly present in all of our lookbooks. Hearing how much customers love what they purchased from Mien and how the garments make them feel always makes my day and inspires me to work even harder.

What is something about your heritage that makes you proud?

I’m Taiwanese American, was born in Taiwan and spent most of my childhood and teenage years growing up there. I have a large family there with a group of close-knit friends and teachers since childhood that I’m still in touch with today. I’m deeply influenced by its culture that teaches the value of hard work, of helping our family and our neighbors, and the importance of empathy and humility. I’m a firm believer that there are no shortcuts in life to get what you want, but that we should also take care of each other along the way. I took from my Taiwanese heritage that kindness, honesty and perseverance are what build a truly fulfilling life, and I’m proud to grow up with these values that I was taught and try to live by them every day.
