Hanna of Sotela

Clothing, Meet the Maker
Hanna of Sotela smiling wearing a pink dress framed by terrazzo artwork by @bleubyrdie on Instagram

We are SO excited today to feature Hanna of @sotelaco as she has just released her new inclusive branding and Sol Collection! (pronouns: she/her). Hanna makes easy wearing, body positive clothing straight out of Los Angeles.

What is your favorite piece in your collection and why?

My favorite piece may be the Stella Jumpsuit. I love outfits that require minimal thinking and are versatile enough to be worn day to night. I’m also very proud of the Stella because it took so many revisions to perfect the design.

  • Hanna wears a Stella Wrap Jumpsuit in Copper and red sandals, while two models stand side by side her in Olive Stella Jupmsuits and beige heels. They smile at the camera against a brick wall and tables covered in fabric.
  • Model wears a Stella Wrap Jumpsuit in Olive standing against a wood cabin outside.
  • Model wears a Stella Wrap Jumpsuit in Clay standing on a wood deck with bushes behind them outside.

What inspired you to become a maker?

Before launching Sotela, I had a hormone imbalance that made most of my closet unwearable. I was so bloated and uncomfortable with my weight that I craved simple designs to fit my changing body. It made me wonder how often we go through weight fluctuations and need clothing that moves and changes with us.

Hanna wears a Dusty Rose Via Wrap Dress. She is seated on a white quilt and smiling with her child and partner. They are all smiling while her partner puts their hand on her shoulder.

What is something about your heritage that makes you proud?

There are several things I’m proud of, but most importantly, both of my parents are immigrants who became successful entrepreneurs. I don’t think I would’ve started my own business had it not been for their strength and motivation. I’m also very proud that spanish is my first language and I’m able to communicate with many people in the fashion industry, especially in Los Angeles, who don’t speak English. My dressmaker only speaks spanish and we wouldn’t have the relationship we have today if I wasn’t able to communicate with her.

Inclusivity

I’m happy to announce we finally expanded our size range to include sizes 0-30. Our newest collection is available in all the sizes as well as the Stella Jumpsuit and Ryan Trousers. We’ve also updated our logo and website to represent our pillar of inclusivity by removing gender specificity.
